Finishing this project has felt like turning the last few pages of a chapter I wish I could continue reading, and it is as I adjust the bookmark, getting close to the back cover, that I would like to thank those who have fundamentally shaped the work hereby presented. First, I would like to thank my supervisors: Alex Esculapio, for guiding my thinking and answering my doubts, always making me feel grateful for the fact that my questions will never be fully answered, and that instead, research will always keep me wondering; and Femke de Vries, for wisely guiding my pen on the page - or more precisely, my fingers on the keyboard. I would also like to thank Hanka van der Voet, who has so generously supported me and the development of my practice. I also want to show my gratitude to Sarah Kehr, not just for her red marker always ready to challenge my thoughts, but for being a researcher whose work never ceases to inspire me, and whose path I would be immensely lucky to continue moving in parallel with. Thank you Sarah. And thank you, Wouter, for your ever-present love and encouragement. Finally, I want to dedicate my research to my grandmother, Alessandra, for gifting me the love of reading, for teaching me to always carry a book with me, and to use the written word as a magnifying glass to question the world around me. Thank you for always asking big questions to a little girl. Senza di te, tutto questo non sarebbe nemmeno stato immaginabile. Grazie nonna.
